Classes at HCC

Hamilton College Consulting classes are designed to give students the best opportunity to earn scores consistent with Ivy-level and UC admissions. Instead of tricks or shortcuts, our classes focus on real skills – critical reading, strong math skills, insightful writing, and solid grammar skills. Our faculty, most of whom have graduate degrees and extensive college teaching experience, are uniquely qualified to implement this skills-based approach.

Classes When You Need Them

H3 Summer SAT/ACT/PSAT Program

In 2016, College Board redeveloped the SAT, rendering it nearly 95% similar to the ACT. Because the skills and format of the SAT and the ACT now overlap to a great extent, HCC created the H3 program, preparing students for three exams—the SAT, ACT, and PSAT—in a single effort. Class options include a 14-week 1600/36 Goal program and 8-week Boot Camp, Elements and Weekend courses. Fall extension classes are included with the 1600/36 Goal course and are also available to link Boot Camp, Elements and Weekend classes with the fall SAT, ACT, and PSAT.

PSAT Reading & Rhetoric

The new SAT has less vocabulary and no guessing penalty… but far more 18th- and 19th-century writing. Because most students don’t encounter this sort of writing in school, and very few read centuries-old novels on their own, our PSAT Reading and Rhetoric classes are designed to expose ambitious 9th and 10th graders to these genres and to cultivate and maintain students’ critical reading and writing skills. The classes will offer students the chance to explore subjects and themes that will appear on the PSAT and SAT, engaging in focused writing and textual analysis and building the skills emphasized in AP Language and Composition. Please keep in mind that these classes do NOT involve weekly timed exams or practice in mathematics.

Fall Extension

Our fall extension programs link H3 Summer classes to SAT, ACT, and PSAT test days in fall. The program is also offered to incoming HCC students wishing to reach their goals. With targeted guidance from expert teachers, students take a practice test during the week and attend class on their choice of Friday afternoon, or either of two sessions on Saturday. All students enrolled in this program are attempting to reach great SAT and ACT scores, as well as admission to selective colleges.

In this monthly course, students will learn to expand their vocabulary, improve their grammar, and hone their writing skills, all the while developing their analytical reading skills through the exploration of various texts.
