Tom Griffith

Mathematics Instructor

Tom has been teaching for over 34 years, and held the position of Chairperson and Mathematics teacher at Scripps Ranch
High School for 20 years. He also served as Scripps Ranch High School Math team's coach. Mr. Griffith is known for his passion for
teaching and his ability to inspire students to achieve their best. His various awards and honors include: Terman Award winner from
Stanford University, Edyth May Schliffe Award for Distinquished High School Teaching winner from Mathematics Association of America
(MAA), and San Diego Union Tribune’s first Newspapers in Education Teacher of the Month. He also serves as a Consultant for
McDougal Littell / Houghton Mifflin in development of Algebra, Geometry, and Advanced Algebra series. Mr. Griffith acted as a
Mentor Teacher with San Diego Unified Schools for 12 years and was a part of the instructional Leadership Team at Scripps Ranch
High. When not teaching Math, Mr. Griffith loves baseball, and has co-authored A League of Your Own resource guide for San
Diego Union-Tribune/San Diego Padres. When he is not in the classroom or at a Padres game, he enjoys hiking with his wife.
